Text Selection for Diagnostic Purposes
There are many teacher-administered, informal reading assessments which profile the comprehension strategies of learners. Most of the traditional grade school comprehension assessments use narrative or fiction passages. Some informal reading inventories use a combination of narrative and fiction passages to assess students' comprehension strategies. This white paper highlights some textual features of reading passages which affect reading comprehension and how these features were taken into account in the development of Let's Go Learn's automated Silent Reading Comprehension Sub-test.
